WASTE TO WEALTH IN AGRICULTURE

In animal husbandry, it has been agreed with proof that feeding alone takes over 60% of the total production costs. With continual rise in prices of conventional feed ingredients it has become imperative to device other cheaper but effective means to make feeds for livestock. One of these is the inclusion of industrial wastes in animal feed production. Although a number of factors affect the use of some of these materials, but with appropriate steps, they can be used with little or no side effects. Some of these wastes include: Rice and Corn bran Palm oil sludge Shea butter cake Brewery wastes Rice bran and corn bran can replace maize in animal diet and they cost less than 15% of the cost of maize, same thing with shea butter cake. Limiting factors in their uses include: High fibre contents High microbial load.                                                             WAY OUT We take the high fibre, high microbes conta

YULETIDE SALES, LESSONS LEARNT

A happy new year to you all, trust you doing great. The last time we had a post here was last year. To start this year, we want to take a good look at some lessons learnt from the poor sales experienced by many poultry farmers last year especially during the festive season. Alot of complains have ensured from the poor sales farmers witnessed during the last festive season as result of this and more, we have compiled some lessons we have learnt which we believe will help to forestall a re-occurrence. There was less money to spend: Compared to previous seasons where many people had money to buy as much birds as possible for the festive season, this past year, due to the effect of the COVID-19 and the poor state of the economy, many people could not afford it, some even saw it as a luxury, alternative means were sought.  Many people reared birds themselves: I don’t know if you noticed that some people took the risk and reared some birds themselves hoping to reduce cost, they might not hav
